I designed this business card for myself before I really started delving into video, started using a new email address, and decided to make all of my branding match my site, so this design is a little out of date now, but I thought it was worth sharing.  This design was made in Photoshop. The quill motif comes from another self-branding idea I was playing with for my online web handle: I wanted this one to reflect three ways I like to express myself; digitally (pixel), in print (ink) and in pencil (dust).  Thus, the dot of the first i is square like a pixel, the dot of the second i looks like a splatter of ink, and the t was rendered to look like it was drawn roughly with a dry medium.  I drew the quill in Illustrator. Missionaries and Marriage Research Paper My group in my Communication Research Fundamentals class decided to do a focus group to study the effects of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ missionary minimum age change, announced in 2012. For my part, I wrote the focus group questions, the first finding, The first conclusion, organized the bibliography and the appendix, and I created the layout and compiled the entire research paper in InDesign. My inspiration for this layout was the Mormon.org website, with its bright and cheery colors and speech bubble motif, since this site and the topic of our research paper both correlate directly to the missionary culture of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.   They’re knights of the round table, and they dance whenever they’re able! I traveled to Nampa, Idaho to meet the talented team behind Skyview High School’s production of Spamalot. Between runs of the show, I talked with Student Director, Leslie Colleen Hamilton, and the Performing Arts Department Chair, Joie Cariaga, about the importance of keeping the arts in public schools. Theater people are hysterically funny to work with, and my sister Leslie (known to me as LC) is no exception.  There were quite a few laughs throughout our interview.  To the great amusement of her students, I compiled a “blooper reel” of some of her silliest moments for everyone to enjoy. What do ceramics and cake decorating have in common? More than you think. I interviewed Mandy Roberts, a cake decorator at Brigham Young University – Idaho, to get her insights on a delicious art form. During our visit, she worked on a “simple” 8-inch cake adorned with chocolate roses. From a 3D R2D2 to a chocolate Eiffel Tower, Mandy reminds us what a shame it is that we can’t have a cake and eat it, too. The Sweetness of Sharing – Behind the Scenes… After our interview, Mandy admitted, “I’m not a big fan of cake. I like baking them and decorating them, but not eating them.” Through several years of experience, the taste of cake has lost its novelty for Mandy. However, I know of at least one person who could–and has!–lived on Mandy’s cakes.  Her former roommate, my sister, had her identity stolen and couldn’t afford groceries for awhile. Mandy was happy to share her school project cakes–and would have shared more than just cake, if my sister had explained her situation! Mandy’s talent for cakes brings more than smiles and amazement; for at least one college student, it meant a few nights of not having to go hungry.
